Amnesia Rebirth was the not the return to form I was hoping for. After Amnesia The Dark Descent. I had hoped Frictional Games would have learned what fans of the series would have wanted. The direction Frictional Games took with Rebirth was much more cinematic. To its detriment, with a voiced protagonist that wouldn’t shut up. Constant flash backs that freeze you in place during times when you’re suppose to be exploring. Slow animations and cut scene walks, and never actually being able to die. The story of Rebirth seems to try and expand on what happened and why in The Dark Descent. All of this served to only take me out of the experience. Making me shake my head and sigh in exasperation.

Health and sanity are basically one and the same, and it regenerates over time to boot. I only ever found one bottle of laudanum, and I never even needed to use it. The game holds your hand through the entire experience. I only felt immersed during the first parts of the game when I didn’t know that my character was immortal. Standing in darkness for too long makes the protagonist hallucinate the sound of someone boiling Rice Krispies. Which quickly gets annoying.
